Last weekend, we joined Scholastic’s Summer Reading Fun Storytelling and Workshop at their warehouse in C. Raymundo, Pasig City.
It was 2 hours of fun and learning and the P300 fee was worth every cent!
Here’s an account of what happened.
The session started with storytelling by Teacher Hilda, a Scholastic Reading Program consultant.
The chosen book was Dr. Seuss’ I Wish that I had Duck Feet. It was a good choice as it entertained the kids a lot with the funny animal body parts. Teacher Hilda would often pause to ask the kids questions about the story. That kept the kids occupied and made the storytelling interactive.
DA was quick to answer some of the questions, a good indication that he enjoyed the story. Yey!
Parents, younger siblings, and guardians get to join the session also as they provided chairs at the back of the room.
After storytelling, it was Teacher Mira‘s turn to introduce the activities that will prepare them for the book making workshop.
She had the kids draw/write their favorite food, favorite things, what they want to be when they grow up, etc. on a sheet of paper.
The kids were then handed a Klutz Build a Book All About Me.
It actually says for ages 6 and up but the workshop is open for kids starting age 4. Don’t worry about it though because you can help your child do it or if you’re not present, the facilitators are helpful enough to guide the kids.
Inside the box is a book with blank pages for your child to fill in. Also included in the box are pretty papers, cutout foams, diecut letters, googly eyes, a pen, and a stick of glue. It’s actually everything your child will need to unleash the creativity in him/her. DA just had fun sticking everything on the pages. LOL!
Here’s everyone busy with their work of art.
After the session, a big surprise awaited the kids. The Kinder Joy mascot made a special appearance to congratulate the kids for their hard work.
Each participant was awarded a certificate of participation and a loot bag with lots of yummy goodies! No photo of those because the kids didn’t take their breakfast and thus devoured the contents. LOL!
A photo with Kinder. π
There was also a photo man to capture the memories courtesy of The Walking Photobooth.
So many goodies to take home plus so many fun things to learn! It sure was a morning well spent!
You can still catch this fun workshop for the rest of summer. Check the poster below for the schedule.
And then you can go shopping for books after! So fun!
And lastly, here’s the map to help you get there. π
This looks great but it’s out of the way for us!

That workshop looks like fun and educational. If only Pasig is near Molino Cavite hays.
Awww
Since my little one was a few months old, I’ve been reading to her several times a week.I think it’s really important to get young kids into the reading habit early on.

True. I’ve been missing out on that lately as we’re usually sleepy already when it’s reading time. Haha. Must get back to it.
This is something i would like my little boy to experience but i doubt if he will still enjoy it. He is already 10 years old and sometimes, i regard him as a baby still and be a little surprised when he find things too uncomplicated for his age. Nonetheless, i will still ask him if he wants to try.

Oh, I’d love to join, but my son is just turning 2 this year. He loves reading books though. I hope they still have this in the future π
We joined the workshop, too, and loved all the freebies plus photo ops with Kinder Joy’s mascot. We missed the storytelling, though, because we were late. Sigh! We also bought books at the book warehouse sale.

Oh I wish my son could join this! But he’s a 2 years old who can’t get his bum still for a full minute! I hope they have this every year for when he gets a bit older! Thanks for sharing!
