Someone went to Japan and gave the kids this gift, Happy Kitchen Hamburger Kit. It’s a miniature hamburger meal that kids (or kids at heart) can whip up and can eat as well! The outcome is like those Play-Doh food creations with the big difference that these can be eaten.
The ingredients are in powder form, which you’d have to add water to and heat in the microwave.
Things You’ll Need
To make this, you will need:
- Scissors
- Water
- Toothpicks
- Microwave Oven
- Tape
What’s in the Box?
Inside the box is another packaging that encloses all the materials and ingredients. DON’T tear this pack randomly (I almost did!) as you would need the pack for labels and holders. Cut it across the top (or follow the dotted lines) to open it.
Inside are all these stuffs. I’ve put labels on the photo for reference.
Get a pair of scissors and cut the tray into these 4 parts.
Cut out these parts from the foil packaging. The placemat (front of the pack), the cup label, the fries holder, and the burger flags (I forgot to include them as I don’t have toothpicks anyway).
Soda Cup
Tape the label onto the soda cup like so.
Fries Holder
Wrap the sheet around and tape it. Fold the bottom part and fasten with tape.
Fries
- Color of Sachet: Yellow Orange
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: 15 seconds
You would always need these for every part (clockwise from top left): water, mixing bowl, spatula, powdered sachet, and scooper.
Simply pour the powder into the mixing bowl, add the required amount of water using the scooper and stir.
Here it is after mixing. Don’t forget to transfer it into the fries tray (square tray) before flattening it. As you can see, I had forgotten and so the shape of the fries didn’t turn out nice in the end.
Microwave at high for 15 seconds.
Ta-da! Baked potato! It does smell like chips!
Use the knife to cut into strips.
Hamburger Patties
- Color of Sachet: Brown
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: 15 seconds
After adding water and mixing. This smells like beef cubes.
Transfer into the middle of the burger tray and flatten.
The patty slot is the one with the ribbing.
Hamburger Buns
- Color of Sachet: Orange
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: 15 seconds
After adding water and mixing.
The mixture for the burger buns go on the left and right of the patty. This mixture is quite sticky so I couldn’t flatten it very well. Try your best to make these look good though as it spells a big difference if the burger buns look circular and nice. The after photo is the one taken after I’ve popped it in the oven for 15 seconds. Set aside to cool.
Cheese
- Color of Sachet: Blue
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: 15 seconds
After adding water and mixing. This smells yummy!
For the cheese, flatten it out onto the rectangular guide in the foil packaging and make a slice in the middle. These are the 2 slices of cheese for your burgers.
Ketchup
- Color of Sachet: Red
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: None
Amazingly, this smells like real ketchup! It was a bit watery at first but it eventually had the ketchup consistency afterwards.
Prepare Burger
Now back to our burger tray. Pop out the buns and the patty with the knife.
Slice the burger buns and patty. Assemble the burger. From bottom, bun, patty, cheese, ketchup, patty, bun.
Add a dollop of ketchup.
Ta-da! Mini burgers!
That’s why it’s a must to try and perfect the burger buns in the previous step. Look at mine! Yeeew!
Soda
- Color of Sachet: Pink
- Scoops of Water: 2
- Microwave Time: None
Start with 1 scoop of water in the cup. Add the soda powder. It fizzes!
Add another scoop of water (or more) after it fizzes to fill the cup.
Ready to Eat
Chow time! After all that effort, it’s about time we taste our creation.
The fries were gone in an instant! 🙂 DA hesitated with the soda so I suppose it didn’t fare well. He eventually gulped it down though.
As for the burger, it was too dry and rubbery. It didn’t taste anything like a hamburger. 🙁 DA took just one bite and bid it goodbye.
Despite the taste factor, these are what I like about it:
- Cute! Who doesn’t find mini burgers, fries, and soda cute?! They even have other food items like mini ramen, mini, gyoza, mini, sushi! Drool! 😛
- Perfect for the Kids because they’re so easy to make. Just mix with water, stir and transfer to tray. Best to left the cooking in the oven for the adults. My pre-schooler was too impatient though. He wanted to eat it already and not wait for the complete set to finish.
- Edible The kids have a Play-Doh kit for making cupcake creations. I always have to be fast in keeping them from stuffing their creations into their mouths. With this, at least they can stuff it in their mouths all they want! 🙂
I’d totally make another one for the fun of it (not for the yum of it)! 🙂 I browsed online and found a shop that sells this and many other Popin’ Cookin’ products in the Philippines! How great is that?! This one retails at P400 at FunChomp.
Haha. It definitely looked so cute! Nice!
