With the way I was shopping for baby things, you would think I was having my first baby and not my third. The last time I was pregnant before this last one was five years ago. In just a short span of time, a lot has changed in the baby essentials industry, giving me an excuse to do some shopping. Teeheehee! Anyway, here are my top picks:
1. Cuddle Bed
What it is: This is the BabyCuddle by BabyCuddlePH. Inspired from Danish baby beds, these are good for co-sleeping and for travelling. It has bumpers all around that makes the baby feel snug and safe thus promoting longer sleep. The ends at the bottom can be untied to make more room as the baby grows.
Why I love it: I’ve been co-sleeping with my 2-month old since she was born. Having this bed gives her her own space on the bed. It’s like having protective bolsters all around that don’t roll off in the middle of the night. Before she was born, I also road tested this with my 3-year old. He actually liked it and I often caught him sleeping with his legs wrapped around the bumper guard. The thought that it can still be used even with 3-year olds gave me the assurance that it’s a worthy investment.
Price: P2699 (I have seen copycats at a fraction of the price. I’m not sure of the quality though.)
2. Nursing Pillow
What it is: This has been around long before but it’s only now that I’ve gotten one. I got the Deluxe Mombo by Bright Starts. It’s a 2-sided pillow with one side firm for breastfeeding while the other soft, perfect for lounging. It also has a removable vibration unit that adds to the whole soothing experience.
Why I love it: The first time I tried nursing with it, my first thought was “Wow! Why haven’t I discovered this before??” Nursing was so much more comfortable with it. I don’t have another product to compare it with though but there has been good reviews about its unique shape. As of writing, I’m using it with the baby sleeping atop while I type.
Where to Buy: I got this from Richwell Club but nursing pillows are readily available in baby stores, online or otherwise.
Price: P1,500 when on sale (SRP 2999.75)
Note: The newest trend that I’ve seen is the adjustable nursing pillow. It looks like a big book with pages. You can turn the “pages” to adjust when you want the baby’s position to be higher. I saw them online at around P1,000.
3. Silicone Breast Pump
What it is: Direct from Haakaa: Made from 100% food grade silicone, this compact pump is perfect for long distance trips, planes, car rides, family BBQ’s or anywhere you would like to discretely express, quickly. Simply suction to your breast and let the pump do the work for you as it draws your milk using suction. 100% eco-friendly and safe for mum, baby and our environment.
Why I love it: I was in awe the first time I used it. It really was just suction and let it do all the work! I was able to collect 3 ounces with it just 10 days postpartum. While not meant to replace electrical pumps, it’s really a very handy and hassle-free way of collecting letdown milk while nursing the baby. Imagine no other parts! I haven’t even touched my electrical pump yet. I just alternated this with my Medela Harmony.
As of writing, I’ve stopped pumping though because I don’t have any help, which means I don’t have the time to pump, much less to wash bottles. Plus, I don’t have much freezer space!
Where to Buy: Rustan’s and online at Milk and Honey
Price: Starts at P950
Note: Beware that there are fake ones going around. @haakaaphilippines ADVISORY: The original manufacturers of Haakaa New Zealand confirms that Haakaa products are NOT being sold through Lazada.
4. UV Sterilizer
What it is: This is the newest way of sterilizing baby things sans the steam and the water. It can even sterilize toys and gadgets! This is the WonderBaby UV sterilizer, by the way. There are other brands like the more popular Ecomom and the newcomer UVCare. The one question that moms often ask about sterilizing is how to dry the bottles after with the traditional way of sterilizing. With this, there’s no need to worry about it as this dries the items completely. The bottles can then go straight to the bottle caddy, lessening the chance of contamination.
Why I love it: I love that it’s super easy to use, just toss the things inside and hit the buttons. No need for water, no need for descaling. I also like the fact that toys and even mobile phones can be sterilized. Plus, it can double as a dish dryer, which makes it useful even when the baby has grown already.
Where to Buy: WonderBabyPH The other brands are available at Baby Company, Baby Mama, and The Parenting Emporium.
Price: Starts at P7,500
5. Air Purifier
What it is: With a newborn and school kids in the same room, a way to reduce germs, bacteria, and viruses is a must. This is the Sharp Air Purifier with Humidifying Function. It traps dust, decreases odours, reduces pollen and mold, freshens, and humidifies.
Why I love it: I like that this also comes with a humidifier function and that the filter can last up to 10 years without changing. My son’s allergic rhinitis seems to have improved a bit also since we got this.
Where to Buy: Dynamicstar Marketing or other electrical appliance stores
Price: Starts at 10,000
6. Lactation Treats
What it is: These treats, usually in the form of cookies and muffins, contain ingredients like oats, brewer’s yeast, and flaxseed are said to promote breastmilk production. This photo is a lactation cookie from Love Jaime.
Why I love it: There are actually countless online stores that sell lactation treats but this one from Love Jaime caught my attention. From the photos they post, the cookies seem so gooey and so mouth-watering, at least to me! Lactation was just actually an excuse, I really wanted to try the cookies, breastfeeding or not. LOL! Anyway, I was not disappointed. The cookies were so chewey and so gooey and so yummy! Writing about it makes me want to order more. Haha!
Oh and yes, I did notice an increase in my milk production.

Price: Starts at P245
7. Baby Carrier
What it is: It’s a way to carry babies that leaves your hands free because we mommas have lots of other things to do. I haven’t tried this with my previous two but I saw the need now because they’re all a handful! I was actually excited to try my Wrapy baby carrier, which I’ve reviewed before but with the unbearable summer heat, I had to choose a cooler one. Thus the Baby K’Tan Breeze.
Why I love it: The fabric is very thin and lightweight, with one side cotton and the other half jersey knit. It’s also very easy to put on with just two big loops. It’s very handy too and it comes with its own carrying bag. It does require a good fitting though as it’s not a one-size-fits-all kind.
Where to Buy: Baby stores
Price: Starts at around 3,000 (I got mine preloved)
8. Mom Support Groups
What it is: These are social media groups that are composed of women/moms who help and support each other. You can share parenting questions, marital problems, in-laws issues, or just anything with them. They’ll give you advice based on their experiences, uplift you, and even give you virtual hugs.
Why I love it: Motherhood can be lonely at times with just you and the baby talking. Having online friends who are on the same boat makes it so much easier. You learn a lot also from reading about other people’s experiences. I currently have a mommy friend whose son is about the same age as my newborn. We’re constantly sharing tips and tricks on Messenger and it’s just so nice to have someone to share sleepless nights with.
Where to Find: Facebook Pages like Glam-O-Mamas and various Viber groups
